Lucía Argüelles

I apply a human and critical geography lens to the field of environmental social science bringing a political ecology perspective to the study of human-environmental relations. I hold a PhD in Environmental Science and Technology from the Instituto de Ciencia y Tecnología Ambiental at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (ICTA-UAB) and a MSc Joint European Master in Environmental Studies by ICTA-UAB and the Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH). My research agenda addresses the socio-environmental inequalities embedded in the making of sustainability, in areas such as the urban greening agenda, alternative food networks, or the technological changes in agriculture (e.g. pesticide use reduction, digitalization). I am currently a senior researcher and Juan de la Cierva Incorporación fellow at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC). Since 2020, I have carried out a research project on the political ecology of weeds in agriculture. Since 2022, I am the co-PI of the project DEMO.
